Over the Christmas period, the Old Crown Coaching Inn will be providing a wide variety of culinary experiences. From our hearty Christmas dinner to our refreshing New Year’s Day brunch, here are our top ten food recommendations across our festive period.
1. Crab Custard
This unique crabmeat dish is one of our menu highlights: a crab bisque flavours a rich, savoury custard, contrasting with the sharp grapefruit and combining with the tomatoes and brioche for a decadent seafood taste extravaganza.
2. Roasted Goose
A Christmas classic, to many the roasted goose is the pinnacle of a festive dining experience. Served with sumptuous winter favourite honey parsnips, redcurrant and a leg pithivier, our Yuletide main event is sure to please.
3. Blood Orange Cremeux
This dessert features traditional flavour combinations of chocolate, vanilla and caramel. The coffee kombucha delivers another complimentary flavour in a unique way, providing a more floral sensation, with the citrus of the blood orange adding another exciting delight.
4. New Year's Day Smoked Salmon
Grated egg yolk and white, capers, cornichons, shallot, creme fraiche, lemon blinis just for you. Our AA double rosetted restaurant doesn’t shy away from an extravagant culinary experience.
5. Josper BBQ Monkfish
An outlier among the more traditional festive dishes on the menu, josper ovens are all about giving food an al fresco feel through their unique charcoal-based grills. This grilled monkfish is sure to please hearty seafood lovers and to provide some heat in the winter months with its sriracha side.
6. Yuzu and Gin Sorbet
East Asian flavours come to Faringdon in this unique dessert. The citrus of the yuzu pairs wonderfully with the floral notes from the gin in this refreshing and aromatic dessert, while honey and shiso add sweetness and minty notes.
7. Beetroot and Carrot Wellington
Non-meat eaters will not go hungry at our Christmas event this year, especially with this hearty beet wellington on offer to delight the taste buds.
8. Confit Turkey Terrine
A unique but still on-theme Christmas recipe, the classic pairing of cranberry and turkey is given a twist with this turkey terrine. The pickled vegetables add another sharp taste to this bold dish.
9. Gorgonzola
Our Christmas day feast can be punctuated with a cheese of course of Italian blue Gorgonzola, with the famously aromatic cheese being accompanied by a caramelised fig tart.
10. BBQ Kohlrabi
This crunchy German turnip takes on the flavours of other culinary delights it’s paired with, so expect a delightfully spicy experience as this kohlrabi is barbequed with sriracha, skinny enoki mushrooms and radishes.
